July Part 2

Becca had to finish her summer school class the first week of July.  But Mike was able to find a troop willing to take her and another girl from her troop on for the week.

All the girls quickly became friends for life.
Hiking up the hill to their site.

Only Mike made the drive up to Canyon the second time but he of course took pictures.

Ah, the look of 14-year-old girl.

Cecilia also went to Scout camp but a lot closer to home.  She and Mike spent the weekend at ISR.

Like her older sister, Cecilia made some new friends.

Another fabulous Scouting weekend on the books.

Mary came upstairs and said "Look Mom, I'm a unicorn!"

Patrick and George cooking dinner together.

George doing his part and mowing the lawn.

Mike and I celebrated our 19th anniversary a few days early while we had a babysitter in the house.

5 of the 7 of us made a quick trip to Iowa to see my folks.  I didn't take many pictures but ran into some old friends around town.

Holy Cow, that is all of July in just two post.  I mentioned that we only had 3 nights with everyone home.  Mike and George went to Canyon the first week.  The day after they returned home, Becca went away to Canyon for the week.  Before she returned, Mike and Lia went to Webelo's weekend and Patrick went to Eagle Eye for 9 days.  Before he returned, Becca went off to pre-pre course for NYLT.  We picked them both up the same day and then journeyed to Winterset the next day.  We returned on Wednesday only to take Becca to more NYLT on Thursday where she will stay until this following Friday.  The van got some miles this month.    As always, we hope this blog finds you well.  If you're in the area you are welcome at our house but we will be busy.

July Part 1

July was nuts in our house.  We had a total of 3 nights where everyone was home.  We celebrated with the 4th of July with a neighborhood bike ride.

As you can see from Tilly, it was very hot.

Mary scored an ice cream cone after baseball.

Mike and George went to Canyon Camp on July 3rd with Troop 206.  Most of the following are pictures Mike took.

To help celebrate our country's independence, Mike made a tri-corner hat and shot a gun.

George climbing the tower.

The camp re-enacts the Battle of Bunker Hill on July 4th with flour.

The rest of the family made the trip up to camp on Wednesday.  Our girls got a chance to try some bouldering.

George mastered the zipline.

We also enjoy some Native American traditional dancing and an Order of the Arrow tap-out ceremony.

Although Becca didn't get to go to camp with most of her troop.  We knew she was going to get tapped out.

Here she is being presented.

George and Alex had to build their own shelter as part of the Wilderness Survival badge.

And some kayaking.

I don't know what he's working on but he's working.

Here are the troops by the bell.

No trip to Canyon Camp would be complete without a stop at Union Dairy in Freeport.

That's it for July part 1.  Come back soon for part 2.
